ABOUT US

Our base is in Ingwavuma, in the Jozini Municipality, uMkhanyakude District, KwaZulu Natal Province, South Africa. Eswatini (formerly named Swaziland) is to the west, Mozambique to the north. We work in the Jozini Municipality area, west of the Pongola river which flows north from Jozini.

Challenges facing the community

Orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) are very common due to many health and socio-economic problems

The cost of living is very difficult. Unemployment is very high. People struggle to live on less than $1 a day.

Health challenges include extremely high infection rates for HIV and TB, but access to healthcare is difficult

Food security is a big concern. Many people only eat once a day, sometimes less. People live 'hand-to-mouth'.

School education is a big issue. Poor children often drop out of school, or are excluded for not having a uniform.

Our organisation

We were originally set up in 2000 as Ingwavuma Orphan Care, but we later changed our name to reflect our local Zulu context

We are a registered Non-Profit Organization (registered number 010-354NPO)
